Hawkins Custom Built Wood FurnitureCustom Built Wood Furniture by Hawkins

As an entrepreneur who has found success working with his hands in all of his endeavors, W.T. Hawkins turned his attention to custom built wood furniture more than 20 years ago. The former auto mechanic discovered his passion when mourning the death of his father inspired him to take wood and tool in hand and build a table. Everyone who saw the table asked if they could buy it – and Hawkins Furniture Company was born.

Hawkins embodies the true spirit of Texas, and this spirit is emulated in each of his original designs. A perfectionist, Hawkins touches every piece. He swears that altering a table by a mere quarter of an inch can make or break how it is perceived and the level of comfort it provides.

Behind every Hawkins creation there is a story

A table top may be made from the recovered hardwood floors of a dance hall or bowling alley, and its legs may come from an old country farmhouse, or a demolished Galveston warehouse. Choose an original Hawkins design from the showroom, or commission your own masterpiece with the craftsman. Feel free to provide your own piece of wood or browse through Hawkins’ private stash of strikingly beautiful woods reflecting the strong, rich Texas grains of pecan, mesquite, longleaf pine, hickory, or black walnut. Hawkins also enjoys collaborating with customers to refinish and restore family heirlooms and estate sale finds.

Custom Built Wood Furniture from Raw MaterialsIt’s all about the wood

Hawkins especially enjoys creating furniture with a raw edge (also known as natural edge or live edge) that follows the line of the tree trunk and showcases the intricate grain patterns of knotty alder, sweet gum, mesquite, spalted oak, pecan, and black walnut.

Custom Crafted Furnishings

We make furniture that fits your space and your style. For more than 20 years, Hawkins has built furniture for clients from all over Texas and America, from law firm conference tables to ranch house cabinets.

Salvaged from the ashes of the Lost Pines wildfires

A good deal of the wood we use is purchased from Ray at Texas Kiln Products. Sadly, Ray’s sawmill burned during the Bastrop wildfires, but he still has a big barn full of the coolest stuff a wood nerd could dream of. Ray is the only person we know of who has saved Lost Pines loblolly pine trees after the wildfires to turn them into something beautiful. Ray also salvages trees that have succumbed to drought from old ranches and homesteads in the Bastrop area, supplying old growth Pecan, Mesquite, Post Oak and Texas Walnut for our large conference tables and dining tables. He hand-mills the trees on a limited basis and sells to a handful of artisans and furniture makers in Texas. Each table, desk, and mantel made from these trees is a piece of Texas history. The wood recovered from the Lost Pines wildfires, in particular, marks a moment in time – bearing charred marks from the fire that make them, truly, one-of-kind pieces.
